Ronald and Ruth Holm opened the Sarasota Schwinn Cyclery, Inc. at 1533 State Street in downtown Sarasota in 1969, the largest Schwinn dealer on the west coast of Florida. On August 30, 1972 construction was started for a larger site at 3800 South Osprey Ave near Bay Road in Sarasota. At this time, the Holms were third in the state in bicycle business volume. This 7,500 square foot space includes a show-room of over 2,000 square feet. Currently their son David Holm manages this location and his brother Michael manages the sister store in Ft. Myers (see our links page for a link to the Ft. Myers location). The Sarasota Schwinn Cyclery has been awarded the Sarasota Herald Tribunes’ “Readers Choice” award for “Best Bicycle Shop” for 11 years (1993 to 2004.) |
